Sanilac County: this village in Elmer Township was founded in 1882 by Jens C. Juhi who, with his wife and six children, had come directly from Denmark. Storekeeper Niels M. Smith became the first postmaster on Feb. 25, 1889, the office operating until June 30, 1906. It became a Danish community with as many as a hundred families living there at a time [Edward P.
