The 32-unit Downtowner was constructed by J.H. Brondyke and opened in May 1961. After opening, they tore their house down on the lot on Academy to make way for 40 more rooms. The site also featured a convention room, 2 conference rooms. The motel continued for many years until it fell into disrepair and was demolished in 2004. A Comfort Inn sits on the site as of 2025. There must have been some postcards on this place but I could not find any for now. Vanished Kalamazoo had some good photos of the motel at the end which can be seen below.
