The Sundown Drive-In was originally owned by Mr. Olson, who also owned the Ideal Theatre in Clare, and Mr. Lee Ward, who also owned the Ward and Broadway Theatres in Mt. Pleasant. At some point Mr. Olson bought out Mr. Ward's share and became sole owner. In 1971 I married Lee Ward's son, Kent, and my oldest son, Rick Lippard, eventually became a projectionist. Besides working at the Ward and Broadway Theatres, he also worked at the Sundown for a while before it shut down. A few years later he and his future wife rented a trailer that was located behind the screen. At one time I had other information for both the theatres in Mt. Pleasant and the Sundown. If I locate them I will post more. PS-my son also worked at the Pleasant Drive In.

My Grandfather , Frank Murdoch ran both the Drive-in in Rosebush as well as the Ideal Theater in Clare back the late 40's and early 50's. My parents also worked there while in high school in Clare.

It has been determined that the Sundown in Rosebush opened in 1950 as the news clipping indicates. Interestingly, it was opened within 2 weeks of the nearby Northland DI in Clare, also on Mission Rd.

The lot is empty, most of the remnants of what was there have been removed by excavation.
